Workshop: Coding for Curious – Intro to programming with ActionScript 3

June 11th, 2011

Registrations for GENEVA are now opened (limited places!).

Hi guys.

I am running my new workshop in a few weeks in Geneva (Friday, 1st of July), so I thought it might be useful to spread the word here, in case you know some curious minds interested or who could benefit from this. It’s oriented mostly to beginners and needs no coding experience.

On the first round (which got really great feedback and sold out) most of the attendees were designers and were really excited with all the stuff they added to their skill-set.
Basically everyone will build a simple game (from scratch) to learn the base (and some more complex) concepts of programming, in this case using ActionScript 3.

Please take a look for more details and share in your networks (you can just use the Like/Tweet buttons in the workshop page).
Thanks a lot!

Successful freelancing with Flash & Flex:
Fernando Colaco

After a few years of freelancing, and with everything going really well now, in my session I share a compilation of little (and not so little) things that were mostly learned by trial and error.

From business administration to dealing with clients, discipline (you’ll need a lot), time management, legal headaches, self-promotion and my best advice of what to do, but specially what NOT to do, in different situations and in specific kinds of projects.

The idea is to provide everyone a better overview of what might not be so easy, what might be simpler than imagined, or, for actual freelancers, share some experiences and advice that can always be useful.

gotoAndSki Switzerland 27 to 29 January

January 3rd, 2011

Hi everyone. First of all, Happy New Year.

Just to let everyone know about gotoAndSki Switzerland, which I am organizing, hapening soon in the Swiss Alps, end of this month.

This is slightly different from the usual Flash/Flex/Mobile conference, with a big focus on the networking/fun part. Basically the day is dedicated to snow sports and fun (Ski/Snowboard/Airboard/Sled) or just relaxing in a nice terrace and enjoying the amazing scenery at the heart of the Swiss Alps. After the slopes close, by end of the afternoon the sessions will start, in a cozy atmosphere in the chalet conference room. This format worked really well in June, at gotoAndSki Norway.

Just take a look at http://switzerland.gotoandski.com and don’t forget to follow @gotoAndSki on Twitter. Feel free also to the word on twitter or/and your blog, let’s get rid of the “not that much development stuff going on in Switzerland” stuff I keep getting in every conference networking :)

Some details:
The 3-day conference will be held at Stechelberg (Jungfrau region / Lauterbrunnen Valley).
You can check the speakers and sessions HERE.
And some more info on the ticket types and pricing HERE.

Regarding tickets, I remind that there’s not that much Value Pack tickets left, so you better rush in case you want to get one. These include the 3 Day conference plus 3 nights at the hotel/chalet with (massive) breakfast buffet, lunch snack and 3 course dinner.
For the 3-day Basic Ticket (includes 3x dinner!), as a suggestion, there’s a nice hostel like / self catering place close to the venue.

So far there’s a few people driving from Geneva, me included (as well as some speakers flying trough), but please use the Car Pooling post if you need or if you have seats available, in case you are driving.

See you in the Swiss Alps?
